We also advise our customers to stay flexible and be realistic in terms of their expectations. Setting Realistic Expectations
The materials you choose, the building techniques we use, and the realities of the house itself dictate how long a job will take. In most cases, the design phase and the construction phase take about the same amount of time, but in some circumstances, the design phase may take even longer.
With that in mind, here are a few additional points to consider:
- Timing is everything. Be sure you schedule the construction phase when it isn’t going to inconvenience you or disrupt your family life. For example, if you start working in the late fall or winter and there are delays (materials don’t arrive on time, permits are held up, and so on), you could be waiting until spring to start up again.
- Schedule demolition work for when your family is out of town or on vacation to minimize disruptions.
- Don’t wait to order the materials you like. Once you have made your selections, they might take a while to arrive. Plus, if you wait, those items might not be available when you’re ready to go.

Materials and product selections are chosen well ahead of construction. Our design team will work with you to help make the process easier, and once you have made your decisions, they will be detailed in a contract and ordered right away.
Permitting and Scheduling
Often, there is a fair bit of lead time to receive items like tile, flooring, windows, and such. During this time, we will take care of all the details, like obtaining permits and developing a construction schedule. We always build in a little cushion of time just in case something unexpected occurs.
Before the project begins, we will have a projected schedule in place that you can follow along with. Your project manager will keep you informed of our progress and of any delays or obstacles that we find along the way. No matter what, we are always available to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
