Parade of Homes

The Parade of Homes is an annual event sponsored by the Custom Builders Council, which is a member of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association. The Parade provides the home enthusiast unique access to custom homes or upper end remodeling projects; a casual setting to meet the craftsman of the homes and to learn more about the process of building a custom home or large remodeling project.

We are proud to have been participants in this event since it began and even more proud of the money the Parade has raised to benefit The Ronald McDonald House Charities. 100% of all proceeds go to this and other worthy charities. As of 2006, the Parade has raised more than $100,000 for Ronald McDonald House and other charities.

1998 Parade Entry - Tomlinson Residence

An in-house design, the Atlanta III has over 7,000 sq.ft. living space. This home was built on High Brook Court in Potomac Falls, Virginia (Estates at Lowes Island) and was completed November 20, 1996. This beautiful stucco and stone home has a unique angled garage with porte-cochere entry. Taking advantage of the oversized garage, a wonderful bedroom and loft was built above providing their once teenage son with a unique space of his own. This home also has extensive exterior hardscaping complete with Balcon pavers and a swimming pool complex. Maximizing the view was important, so we relocated the fireplace from the back of the family room to the side and installed large windows on the rear wall allowing for sweeping views of the Lowes Island Golf Course.

1999 Parade Entry - Hess Residence

Designed in-house, the Kent model includes over 6,000 square feet of livable space. Our in-house design was further customized to meet the needs of a growing family. Located on Stonehouse Place in Potomac Falls, Virginia and completed in September 1999, this home has a brick and stone exterior, 3 finished levels, 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths. This home also overlooks the pristine golf course at Lowes Island.

2000 Parade Entry - Lu Residence

To accommodate our clients with a larger lot and in need of more living space, we created the Country Manor. Inspired by the Kent Plan, this home has 5,500 sq. ft. of living space on the top two floors. Built on Walker Road in Great Falls, Virginia, this in-house design, with its stucco and stone exterior, spectacular 10-foot center hall, 2-story rotunda with curved stair, marble floors, 2-story great room, and contemporary kitchen marries the best of traditional design elements with a bit of the contemporary creating an eclectic warm and welcoming home. Construction completed in November, 2000.

2001 Parade - Matijkiw Residence

This family loved the Country Manor but needed even more space. So we completed all 3 levels and added on a large sunroom which over looks the family’s favorite summer place - their swimming pool complex. This 8,000 sq. ft. custom home was built on Walker Road in Great Falls, Virginia. The exterior of the home features the Olde World look with a steeply pitched roof with snow guards, a stucco and stone exterior and copper details. The finished lower level is a favorite of many visitors complete with tempered wine cellar, spa room, children’s play room, media room, and billiard area and wet bar. Construction completed February, 2001.

2002 Parade Entry - Callaghan Residence

The Kent Model was redesigned in-house to include an inviting and usable front porch. The mix of Hardiplank siding and stone veneer combined with the charming front porch reminds visitors of old homes of the south. This home was built on a heavily treed and unusually shaped lot with extensive Resource Protection Area, which made construction a little more challenging. A special play area was designed over the garage so that children could play within an earshot of mom and dad. This home has over 5,000 sq. ft. living space and was constructed on Springvale Road in Great Falls, Virginia. Construction completed November, 2002.

2003 Parade Entry - French Estate

While many of our clients love their 2-story great rooms, a number of clients have expressed that they would rather have a large bedroom above or more bedrooms on the second floor and wanted to move away from the 2-story great room. Keeping the best elements of the Country Manor design, we went back to our drawing board and came up with a new plan to meet this new request, the French Country Manor. This elegant olde world stone and brick manor has over 8,000 square feet of interior and exterior living spaces. The first floor has 10-foot ceilings and the family room has a 1-foot step down. Eliminating the traditional 2-story great room allowed for a larger master suite. In keeping with old world design elements this home features a unique cherry coffered ceiling in the kitchen, 2-story 10-foot diameter rotunda with curved staircase in foyer, 4 fireplaces, 5 bedrooms and a spectacular studio over garage. Located on Springvale Road in Great Falls, Virigina. Construction completed, January 2004.

2004 Parade Entry - Oyama Residence

This custom home provided a unique challenge for us. To design a home with all the elements of the Kent Model and fit it on a property that was no more than 10,000 sq.ft. (approximately 1/6 of the size of our typical lots). We affectionately refer to this home as our ship in the bottle design. Through tremendous determination and imagination and a lot of erasing, we designed a 3,900 sq.ft. home on Highland Avenue in Falls Church, Virginia, that includes all the design elements and living spaces that the larger homes of today include. This Cottage Style home is efficiently designed and within its 3900 sq.ft. of finished living space are 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, a 1st floor study with full bath that converts this space to a guest room when needed, traditional formal living spaces with a generously sized dining room for formal gatherings. The entry includes an oversized 2-story foyer so upon entering the home it immediately feels open and spacious. Our homeowner’s favorite space is her charming and welcoming front porch. It is her she has her morning coffee and visits with her neighbors. Construction Completed November, 2004.

2005 Parade Entry - Grisius Residence

The owners’ loved their neighborhood, but the house needed major updating and more space for their growing family. They debated about selling their home and building our French Estate. At the end of the day, they knew they would never find a property like their 5-acre lot and their kids loved their schools and their yard. The original home was well built and was worth too much to tear it down and start over. So, we went to the drafting table, studied all of our in-house designs, particularly the French Estate, and found a way to incorporate the best features from these plans into our client’s existing home with a few twists added. The first step was to convert the existing garage to a new family room and change the pitch of the old roof. Next, we added a new wing to the home complete with 3-car garage, impressive mud room with built-in family lockers, summer kitchen, friends and family entrance, new informal powder room, new master suite, and an additional bedroom with private bath. We also remodeled the formal powder room, an existing baths upstairs and converted an old bath into a new laundry/hobby room. Our clients now have the home of their dreams in the neighborhood that has been home for so many years. Located on Springvale Road in Great Falls, Virginia. Construction completed Summer of 2005.

2006 Parade Entry - Cahill Residence

Our clients wanted to live in Great Falls, Virginia more than anywhere else and they wanted to be in a neighborhood. Something that is a little unusual for this bucolic town. They looked at re-sales, but nothing they saw felt like home. Then they visited our French Estate and felt right at home. The only problem was that the French Estate was sold. Having found the home design of their dreams, they now needed to find a lot upon which to build. With lot prices soaring, they went on an exhaustive search for just the right property that would work with the house plan and their budget. On their own, they did not have success. So they asked us to find them a property. By knowing the community and having long standing relationships with so many, we secured a lot in a neighborhood that met their criteria. Construction immediately began on a brick and stone manor home based on the design of the French Estate model which was customized for their family’s needs and budget. With over 7,000 finished square feet of living space in beautiful established neighborhood, this home has 3 finished levels, 5 bedrooms, and 4 full baths and the unique rotunda foyer which is a Foley classic design element. Construction completed Spring of 2006.
