After searching for the perfect home in the perfect neighborhood, our clients decided there really was no place like home. And what was needed was a major of renovation of their existing home. Of primary concern, their family room was far too small, their mud room could not accommodate their children, their children’s friends and all the sporting equipment and the master suite was dated and small.
By converting the existing garage into a new family room; building a 2-story addition to include a new 3-car garage with porte-cochere covered entry, an enormous mudroom with custom lockers, and a luxury master suite above; remodeling all the interior baths on the top 2 floors; and transforming the former master suite into a suite for the littlest princess in the house, this home was now perfect. A stunning balcony connects the master suite to the rest of the second floor over the great room. To tie in the old with the new, additional changes were made to the exterior including raising the pitch of the roof, adding dormers, re-designing the front entry, creating a special friends and family entrance; painting the new and old brick; replacing the windows and upgrading to Hardi-Plank siding. This new home needed a new entrance. A circular driveway made from Balcon pavers was the final finish detail for this whole home transformation. Without looking at the before and after pictures, can you tell what was the original home and what was added?
Special Challenges: The entire family lived in the basement during the entire construction process. At the end of every day, we would find a way to reconnect a washer and dryer so that the laundry of the budding baseball players and dancers could be done. In the morning, we would disassemble the temporary laundry to continue our work.
